WE'RE BACK!

The 35th Annual California We The People State Finals are back in person in Sacramento on February 5, 2022. We are thrilled to be back at the Capitol.  A special thank you to all the staff who took the lead and made it possible to return to in-person competition this Spring!

Thank you for supporting quality civic education. Your contributions help to make the We The People State Finals in Sacramento happen!

LIVE Streaming the Award Ceremony on the California We the People FaceBook page starting at about 4:45-5:00 pm on Saturday February 5!

The competition focuses on the United States Constitution and its application.  Students not only have to know the Constitution but be able to discuss its relevance, citing courts cases and historical fact to support their assertions. Each team is then grilled by a panel of judges, all of who have some expertise in the Constitution and its connection to current issues. Students are challenged to critically think and civilly discuss while under a lot of pressure, not to mention the time constraint. The follow up questions are impromptu and ask students to delve into areas not explored by undergraduates in college let alone high school seniors. Since the beginning of the year students have put in long hours after school. From the beginning of November through January, students average 15-25 hours of practice time outside the school day a week.

The following six teams have won the right to compete in the CA State Finals in Sacramento on February 5, 2022.
